In the Circus - The Juggler, the Magician & the Acrobat.

I began working on tiles in September last year. It’s May, 2023!

Not surprisingly, it has taken me this long because I don’t have a clone yet. Continuing my intend to build something playful this summer, these tiles were developed in a set of three, keeping in mind the possibility of filling an entire wall. Upon recalling some of my favourite acts (I remember watching as a child) at a Circus, I made an artwork for a juggler, a magician and an acrobat.

The artwork, first traced onto clay and like in a process similar to linocut, a relief work is scraped out. From there a plaster mold is created and multiple impressions can be generated by using clay either in slip-form or by pressing in. For the glazing, I applied engobes generously on the work, let it seep into the line art and sponged off the rest. I now have about six samples rusing various types of clays with different glaze combinations.

HOW TO USE: Build a simple frame with nails, position them as you like, close by or slightly spaced out. Place the works within. These are just samples for a bigger wall pieces I hope to do soon! Any one seeking an entire wall to be refurbished with terracotta tiles? LMK
