I have been keeping notes on google and on a moleskin for years, but the urge to write in an open blog-like format has been brewing for months. And of course the prospect that somebody might find what I have to say interesting could be one motive but not the main incentive.
Words allow me to express where images fall short and while I am able to share photos and videos of my work-in-process there are thoughts in my head, incipient conceptions and technical occurrences that can not be taped. A swift motion of my fingers smudging and smearing clay inside a vessel to strengthen its exterior surface is a sensory experience that can be expressed by spoken or through written word.
Vlogging or a video format could have been a the way to go given the fact that building a sentence to explain a technical process can be hard. But because I am exceedingly saturated by still and moving images, I cannot find the will to vlog. Moreover, I hope to communicate in a way more subtle, allowing for one to imagine and rather than to feel instructed.
But perhaps the main reason, why I still write or keep diaries or take notes in subways, has simply been to better understand my own self. It allows me to externalise my thoughts, seemingly all over the place at first, but eventually through sporadic actions I can watch something consequential begin to shape.
