POST ANTHROPOCENE

A VISUAL ESSAY

Post-Anthropocene, life rebuilds with new vigour.

In the new order, old patterns emerge.

Competition and cooperation. Courtship and combat.

Nature performs through its first species, forming alliances necessary for its dominion.

POST ANTHROPOCENE

Latika’s latest sculpture work reimagines nature’s continuity post Anthropocene.

In a manner similar to the long extinct megafauna the ‘first species’ can be seen striding across new lands and repopulating it. In this new world nature’s dominion once again unfolds through its old patterns of competition and cooperation, courtship and combat. It is the interplay of these behaviours and alliances that the artist reflects upon through her three-legged, abstracted sculpture works, each one conveying and essence of a specie we once knew. The work is thus nostalgic, and yet hopeful.

Sculpture, stoneware ceramic, 40% fine schamotte, grain size 0.5-2mm, unglazed, hand-built using coils.
